Living in the future … the first wildflowers are appearing in the park and along the riverbanks, trees are budding or starting to leaf, and so another Floralia has arrived. I’ve repositioned the skull on my vanitas shrine – facing to the right, symbolizing “looking forward” – and re-dressed the flowered caplet in honor of the season. I’ll see the dried leaves and ivy berries again in about six months. Sandalwood incense was burned, the ashes to scent my bowl full of dried petals for Falling Flower rituals.
As is customary for this time of year, I’m also beginning two new projects. One is helping to organize an online conference event for the Spiritual Naturalist Society, which will take place in November of this year. The other is beginning a fairly major art project that will – all going well – result in an exhibition’s worth of diverse artifacts representing a panoply of fictional religions, including one that I’ve invented myself.
More to come as the season advances …
